Flourishing: Embracing Urgency & Grounding in Community
April 18 - 21, 2024
Types of articles
Holistic Education Review is a unique hybrid publication serving more than one purpose. HER is a peer review journal, with a double blind peer review process, serving to increase the scholarship of holistic education. In addition to our Peer Review section, we offer a Community Voices section in each issue. In the spirit of holistic practices we access a wide range of styles and genres for the Community Voices. Authors may submit, for example, an article about a classroom practice, creative writing, a memoir, or even artwork or a video. Finally, we also have a Featured Articles section, which features special authors or themed articles. See submission guidelines for each type of section below.
Who Can Submit?
Anyone may submit an original article to be considered for publication in the Holistic Education Review, provided they own the copyright to the work being submitted or is authorized by the copyright owner or owners to submit the article. Authors are the initial owners of the copyrights to their works, unless the authors have, as a condition of employment, agreed to transfer the copyright to their employer. There are no fees for authors to publish in the journal.
GENERAL SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
Each submission must include a title, an abstract, keywords, an author bio statement, and be written in a readable font. Submitted articles cannot have been previously published, nor be forthcoming in an archival journal or book (print or electronic)*.
All manuscripts should be submitted in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format (not PDF).
Submission Guidelines and Review Process for Peer Review Articles
Submit your article using the Submission portal on the Holistic Education Review website. Academic submissions undergo a double-blinded peer review process, which means that both the reviewer and author identities are concealed from the reviewers, and vice versa, throughout the review process. The results of the review will be returned to the author with one of four responses: unconditional acceptance, acceptance pending minor revisions, acceptance pending major revisions, or not accepted.
Formatting Requirements for Peer Review articles: Initial submission of articles to the Holistic Education Review should be submitted as a Microsoft Word document (.doc/.docx), with body of text in 12pt. in any readable font, double-spaced, using American Psychological Association (APA), 7th edition format and style. The preferred article length for peer review articles is between 3,000-7,000 words.
Submission Guidelines for Community Voices: Community Voices articles can be virtually any length or any format. They may be scholarly or more informal in their content. The preferred length for Community Voices articles is under 4,000 words. Please submit through the submission portal on the Holistic Education Review website.
Submission Guidelines for Featured Articles: Guidelines for invited articles are open, although preferred length is no longer than 7,000 words. To submit an feature article, simply email to the editor who invited you to write a feature article (see our emails on the about page) or email journal@holisticeducationreview.org and be sure to put "HER FEATURED ARTICLE SUBMISSION" in the subject line. The editor will stay in contact with you in regard to the editorial process. Feature articles may also be submitted through the peer review submission portal.
*Please note: "Publication" in a working-paper series does not constitute prior publication. In addition, by submitting material to Holistic Education Review, the author is stipulating that the material is not currently under review at another journal (electronic or print) and that he or she will not submit the material to another journal (electronic or print) until the completion of the editorial decision process at Holistic Education Review. If you have questions about these submission terms for the Holistic Education Review please contact the team at journal@holisticeducationreview.org
Questions? Please email journal@holisticeducationreview.org or one of our editors (see the about page for direct contact information).

Our Partners
Thank you Southern Oregon University for hosting the Holistic Education Review and all of the resources you provide that make this journal possible.
The Transformative Learning Foundation is a leading facilitator for wisdom in education, awakening potential for the evolution of our consciousness. Since the beginning of compulsory education, the definition of what learning looks like has become increasingly narrow with each passing decade. In the past 20 years, there has been greater emphasis on compliance, following the prescribed curriculum, direct instruction, and standardized testing.
Antioch University’s MA in Individualized Studies, Social Sciences is proud to offer a concentration in Transformative Learning Communities, in partnership with the Transformative Learning Foundation.
The TIES M.Ed roots date back to the 1990’S when Philip Snow Gang founded the Global Alliance for Education. The seminal document, Education 2000: A Holistic Perspective became the principles on which The TIES program was organized.
The Center for Holistic Education is located in the Education Department of Southern Oregon University in Ashland, OR.
