What is so exciting about this video is that it compacts the most important aspects of 7 years of research into 8 minutes by telling stories. Honoring the spiritual core of humans is a central aspect of holistic education. I think that's why holistic education is becoming so compelling to young people right now, who are craving more meaning in their lives. The research in the film "normalizes" spirituality in education. It defines how it is different from religion and why spiritual development is essential to whole human development.
The reason this video is meaningful to me, personally, is because I have been a part of this research for 7 years. Linda Lantieri--dear friend, mentor, and founder of CASEL--is featured in the film, along with Dr. Lisa Miller. I was a research fellow with Lisa, and she was on my dissertation committee at Columbia University Teachers College. I didn't think I would see spirituality in education become a topic of discussion in public schools in my lifetime. This film gives me hope. ~Renee
